Heritage Forward

The Complexity

Heritage is only an advantage if it points forward.

Chown Hardware is the oldest family-owned architectural hardware, plumbing, and lighting company in North America. Chown was founded in Portland in 1879 and sustained by five generations of the same family. Their reputation was built on quality service, deep relationships, and a sense of belonging that extended from the family to their team to every customer who walked through the door. The brand needed to carry all of that into its next chapter of growth without losing any of it.

The Idea

We repositioned Chown and built the playbook for its next chapter. By defining the values, voice, visual identity, and experience that set them apart for over a century, we gave the brand the foundation to expand into new markets with clarity and confidence.

The Outcome

In 2020, Chown opened their third showroom in Seattle’s SoDo district, bringing 140 years of Pacific Northwest heritage to a new city.
