Llanllyr Source

History You Can Taste

The Complexity

There are over 195 bottled water brands in the United States alone, but very few of them have anything real to say.

Llanllyr Source had been drawing from the same spring beneath organic farmland in West Wales since 1180. With 800 years of history and three centuries of family farming, this pure water source was coveted by top hotels, sommeliers, and chefs long before it became a brand.

The Idea

We repositioned Llanllyr Source as a luxury object rather than a beverage. The visual direction drew from the world of fine spirits rather than the water category. With a map of Wales and “Since 1180” embedded in the label, it was redesigned to make the bottle feel at home on the tables of the world’s leading hotels and Michelin starred restaurants. In one of the most saturated categories in the world, the answer wasn’t to compete on purity, price or sustainability. It was to go deeper into what made the brand singular and build everything around that. Eight hundred years of unbroken history is not a heritage play. In the right hands it is an unfair advantage.

The Outcome

The concept was recognized by The Dieline as one of their Concepts We Wish Were Real, and its vision ultimately made it into market after our partnership ended. What began as a new way to express Llanllyr’s 800-year provenance became the foundation for how the brand showed up in the world.
